WHAT IT IS AND HOW TO AVOID IT?
Definition
EMS online has always supported supervised training sessions by profesional personal trainers. If we if we put our selves in non-profesional trainers care we can end up having some injuries and health problems like the one we are going to talk about today. Please, take care of yourself and spend and extra money on finding some who is qualified to be a personal trainer and lead Ems training sessions.
Today we are going to talk about a disease that can appear after we do a high intensity exercise.
It is called rhabdomyolysis, what happens is that the myoglobin in our muscles cells gets in our blood due to the brake of our muscle cells. We end up having myoglobinuria. Myoglobin is present in our muscle cells as a reserve of oxygen.
Symptoms
When we suffer from rhabdomyolysis we can have some of these symptoms:
- feel tired
- our muscles are swollen and painful
- we have nausea fever
- Our urine becomes dark
EMS online encourages you to go visit the doctor if you feel any of these symptoms after 2-3 days from your last training session.
When myoglobin gets to our blood then our kidneys have to remove it from our body and this can damage our kidney while trying to assimilate a larger amount of myoglobin that what it usually has to.
The standard treatment for rhabdomyolysis is hydration and rest time.
Some advice on how to avoid rhabdomyolysis?
It might sound easy but the main thing to do is know where our limits are, push our selves a bit further but not to the point we feel pain. (e.g: we know we can run 1km in 5 minutes, we can try to run 1km in 4 minutes 40 seconds, but do not try to make it in 3 minutes on the first attempt, make a progression).
Something that is also important is find a good personal trainer with EMS education, it might request a bit more time of search or even a couple of extra pounds, but it is absolutely worth it.
While the training sessions is going on we have to keep telling our trainer how we feel, if we can do an extra series, if we can increase the intensity or if we need to reduce it, our trainer has know everything that happens during the training session. Before even starting the session, spend a couple of minutes talking to your trainer about your body feelings after the last sessions, your feelings that day, let him understand how your body reacts and works so the best work can be done.
Our last piece of advice is about drinking and training.
When you do sport your body looses lots of nutrients, fat, minerals… Your body will need to replaced them, even if you don’t feel tired or your body doesn’t demand you to drink lots of water, it is important to do so, keep drinking before, during and after your training sessions. If possible we recommend you drink some extra water on the days you do a EMS training sessions to avoid rhabdomyolysis been an option.
